Being new to Nome, we needed to find a local coffee shop to be our local hangout; We found it here at Bering Tea and Coffee. The owner and staff are great and the drinks are creative and delicious.

If you are a visitor from the lower 48 you need to understand that things are a little different here. Instead of chocolate sauce they use cocoa powder (Ghirardelli) but that actually works to our advantage.

On our first visit, we had the daily special called the Dusty Roads, very fitting for Nome. It was a Dark Chocolate, brown sugar, and cinnamon latte. It was great, and as we met the owner Christine, I mentioned that a touch of Cayenne would take it over the top. The next round she added cayenne and my tastebuds were in delight.

The staff here, although almost always busy, are very friendly and accomodating. They have no problem doing custom drinks like my dark chocolate cocoa with no sugar (yes %100 cocoa) with sugar free raspberry syrup, non fat, decaf, extra hot, extra dry Cappuccino. It hits the spot for me but feel free to indulge in your sweet tooth and make it the way you want.

If you area local or visiting Nome, you need to stop by Bering Tea and Coffee. There is a good chance you will see me sitting by the front window, enjoying a drink and great conversations with the locals and the visitors.

    Taste: 9
Quality Vs Cost: 9 (Nome is EXPENSIVE)
Presentation: 10 ( The pink lids and custom coffee mugs earned this score)
    Service: 10
    Atmosphere and Ambiance: 10

    Total 48/50 = 5 star

This is an amazing coffee shop! For such a small town, this is a gem! Prices are reasonable. The customer service is excellent. I love how friendly the patrons are to each other. They have free WiFi for customers. When I came on Saturday afternoon there were people having a mini acoustic jam session as well as people working on laptops and those just chatting. The decor is fresh and warm. It also leads into a gift shop next door. 10/10 would recommend the berry smoothie.

I thought it was A-OK. Place was actually decent and had cool art hanging. I thought it was 3 stars instead of 4 because of the great syrup debacle of 7/5/18. My ordered coffee with syrup didn't come with syrup when I tasted it. When I went back to get it the barista asked the other barista, didn't put any in? Yes, I put in 3 pumps full. She put in 3 pumps full. Then they both stared at me when I had to explain that I couldn't taste it. I don't know, it was just an awkward moment that brought a 4 star experience to 3 stars.

Would come again if I was in the area, but I think it would be because there aren't many other options.

This is a really cute cafe in Nome, across from Anvil City Square (where the world's largest gold pan and the statues of the Three Swedes and the church are). It was kind of a cold windy day and a hot beverage sounded good. I went in, with intentions to get a nice cup of tea. There's a bookshelf to the left of the cashier's counter with containers of loose leaf tea, like earl grey and darjeeling and green and more. At the top of this bookshelf were also the cutest mugs with their logo, which is of a mermaid (cooler than the starbucks mermaid). They were a beautiful blue and they were $25 for the ceramic ones. I was really tempted to get one but didn't want to carry it with me while I was walking around Nome. On the menu, they had something called a Screaming Monkey latte, which was like the flavor of the moment. It's a latte flavored with banana and macadamia nut. I like both of those flavors and I was intrigued. I asked the cashier if it was good, but he said that he had never had it before (which wasn't a good sign). But I ordered it anyway. It wasn't very good. The coffee wasn't very good and the flavors just made it taste really artificial. I wish I had gotten a cup of tea instead. But the people who work here are really friendly! There's free wi-fi and it's a cute little place to escape from the cold. But there is an outdoor seating area for when the sun decides to come out.

What's not to love? It's a tiny coffee/bakery with free Wi-Fi. I came on a Sunday afternoon and had a latte. It was tasty; I wish I'd have tried some of the baked goods, maybe next time! Nice tea selection as well, and the employees are really friendly.
